American Heritage Dictionary, Fifth Edition App Reviews

With the most current release, the audio pronunciation was taken away without notice. This was one of the best features of this app as it didnt require an internet connection. The programmers also took away a very handy shortcut that cleared out the search box, again without notice. This app used to be one of my favorite apps; now I truly HATE IT. And I HATE the programmers even more!!!!

The last two updates have STILL not fixed the broken audio pronunciation feature. If youre thinking about buying this app, my advice is to stay away until this is fixed.

Pronunciation no longer works. The little icon is still there but it no longer works. As some have pointed out there used to be a way to clear the search bar. That no longer works. This started out as a premium app. Im considering its replacement.

This app has never worked as well since it was released for iOS 9. Still has no sound. Pronunciation feature was a strong point of the app. Developer promised a fix in November, 2015, but none yet. Jan. 12, 2016 Just completed downloading the latest semi-annual update. This dictionary is still the best on contemporary American English usage, and has the advantage of being available in an iOS app that functions flawlessly and is filled with features. 1-17-2015 This is probably the best dictionary available on contemporary American English language usage. And certainly the best on contemporary usage that is available in an iOS app. Its great that the publisher does complete semi-annual updates, with new words being added. Also, they do a good job with occasional updates, when Apple periodically tweaks iOS, or other issues crop up. 10-2-2014

The Sound Models DO NOT WORK, Over!

BE WARNED: THE “PROFESSIONALLY RECORDED SOUND FILES” DO NOT WORK. After un-installing the app from my iPhone 6+ and removing it from my MacBook Pro library, and then re-downloading and reinstalling it, the sound feature is still nonfunctioning. Very disappointing, especially for such an otherwise high quality and costly product! I’m surprised that for such a distinguished company they do not simply declare up front that this is a known issue on which they are working. I strongly recommend waiting to download this until a remedied version is explicitly announced.

It deserves no stars. I paid for the app for its pronunciation, I does not work. I have been sending emails for the past 7 months and they keep telling that they are working on an update! They are either liars or a bunch of incompetent people! 7 months for a fix! It is a waste of money

On iOS 9.2.1 No sound! Fix this or refund peoples money! We didnt buy your app for the optics; it was only for the pronunciation!

The app is not impeccable, but does the job of delivering definitions, word pronunciations and pictures. Very helpful! And separate lists are easy to export to word documents.

I paid for this app one an the developer issued an update that required me to pay again. The app is expensive and I should not have been required to pay twice.

Its working again, finally. It took so many months to fix this app one can only surmise widespread incompetence. Two stars off for the worst costumer support and debugging ever.

AHD5 is awesome! I love the usage notes in AHD5; they are all accessible in a list if one wants to see words that are sometimes misused. UPDATE: Version 6.7.8 fixed the audio pronunciation. YAY! I have an iPhone 6 with iOS 9.2.

Hallelujah! Most of this applications features seem to be working again in iOS 9. . , after the March 30, 2016 update to app Version 6.7.8 Its especially nice to have the audible pronunciation of the words feature working again.
